Karmapa and Karma Kagyu Tradition Tibetan Buddhist practitioners at Rokpa Dundee follow the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism which is renowned for its emphasis on meditation practice. The head of the Karma Kagyu Tradition is know as The Karmapa who has been the primary source of refuge for the Kagyu lineage since the 12th Century and have transmitted the entire Kagyu line of teaching to their students until the present Karmapa, Orgyen Trinley Dorje. Scottish and Tibetan Origins ........... Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche The world renowned Samye Ling Tibetan Centre and monastery was founded by two Tibetans abbot's; Chogyam Trungpa Tulku and Dr. Akong Tulku Rinpoche in 1967. It was the first of its kind in the Western world and nestles in the hills of the Scottish borders. Over 40 years it has subsequently grown and developed into a monastery and internationally renowned Buddhist centre. It is part of the Rokpa Trust which is a non-political spiritual and humanitarian organisation with branches throughout the world. The monastery at present is presided over by the Venerable Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche, the brother of Akong Tulku.
